Friends, cinema lovers, get ready – September 2025 is going to be a blockbuster month! From Hollywood horror to Bollywood courtroom drama, from Japanese anime to Shin Chan madness, this month is packed with variety. Whether you like watching movies with friends in theatres or prefer OTT at home, your weekends are going to be full of entertainment.
Let’s go through the releases date by date, so that you can plan your movie calendar properly.
📅 September 5 Releases
The very first Friday of the month is loaded with four films – all different from each other.
🎬 The Conjuring: Last Rites (Theatres)
One of the most talked-about Conjuring Universe is meeting with its end with the release of this film. For one final ghost-hunting mission, none other than Vera-Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back as Ed and Lorraine Warren. Why special? Because it is literally the “last rites” of the horror saga which has scared audiences worldwide for more than a decade. Indian fans of horror cinema already know how big Conjuring films are here – late-night shows will be housefull. If you love goosebumps and sudden jumpscares, this one is a must-watch.
🎬 Highest 2 Lowest (Apple TV)
OTT lovers, here’s a big one. Spike Lee directs this thriller starring Denzel Washington, inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Japanese classic High and Low. The story is set in modern New York where Washington plays a music mogul caught in a ransom plot.
This film promises suspense, emotions, and powerhouse performances. Apple TV doesn’t usually get the same buzz in India as Netflix or Prime, but this movie might change the game.
🎬 Splitsville (Theatres)
A quirky comedy-drama about relationships and friendships. The film, directed by Michael Angelo Covino, displays two couples dealing with secrets and affairs. Why watch? Because it is the kind of realistic comedy where laughter comes from awkward everyday situations. Viewers who liked Marriage Story will probably connect with this.
🎬 Light of the World (Theatres)
It is a 2D animated film, based on the life of Jesus. The film is shown through the eyes of his young friend John. The film shows His teachings as well as His miracles in a simple and most effective and easing way.
In India, movies with spiritual or devotional angles often attract families. This one might surprise everyone with its response.
September 12 Release
This week has just one film, but anime fans will go crazy for it.
🎬 Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle (Theatres)
Finally, one of the most awaited anime films lands in theatres! This part continues after the Hashira Training arc, taking Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke into Muzan Kibutsuji’s terrifying Infinity Castle.
The hype is next level. Even in India, anime movies are pulling huge crowds nowadays, especially students. Expect emotional moments, jaw-dropping action, and packed theatres. If you’re an anime fan, this is the one date you cannot miss.
September 19 Releases
Triple dhamaka on this Friday – three completely different films dropping together.
🎬 A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (Theatres)
It is a dreamy romantic fantasy. The movie stars Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. The story is about the two strangers who happen to meet at a wedding and are pulled all at once into the magical journey where they revisit their past and explore their future. This movie will prove to be a perfect pick for you, if you are the person who loves emotional love stories with a fairy-tale twist.
🎬 Jolly LLB 3 (Theatres)
The big Bollywood highlight of September! Both Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar return as the two Jollys, fighting cases in front of Judge Tripathi (Saurabh Shukla).
The first two films were cult hits in India. People loved the mix of humour, satire, and courtroom drama. This time, with two Jollys clashing, expect sharp dialogues, hilarious moments, and full-on Bollywood fun. No doubt this will attract huge Indian crowds.
🎬 Afterburn (Theatres)
For action lovers, here’s something different. Starring Samuel L. Jackson, the film is set in a post-apocalyptic world after a massive solar flare. His mission? To recover the Mona Lisa while surviving chaos.
It’s like Mad Max meets National Treasure. Perfect for those who enjoy thrillers with action and survival drama.
September 26 Releases
The last Friday of the month is again double-loaded with two very contrasting films.
🎬 Shin Chan: The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers in India (Theatres)
Yes, everyone’s favourite mischievous kid Shin Chan is back – this time on the big screen in India. The story revolves around a dance competition between Kasukabe and an Indian city called Mushibai. Things get crazy when Bo-chan turns into a tyrant after finding a mysterious backpack.
This film is going to be pure laughter. Kids and adults both love Shin Chan here, so expect families to rush to the theatres.
🎬 One Battle After Another (Theatres)
This drama stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn. Paul Thomas Anderson has directed this movie. DiCaprio plays Bob, a former revolutionary who lives with his daughter off the grid. Trouble starts when his old enemy returns, and his daughter goes missing.
It’s a serious, emotional film – more on the art-house side. With two Oscar-winning actors in lead roles, cinephiles will definitely be curious.
