Technology Desk, New Delhi. Apple’s new iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max were unveiled at the ‘Awe Dropping’ event on Tuesday. The Pro models will be available alongside the standard iPhone 17 and new Air models in the coming days. As expected, the iPhone 17 Pro models are powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip, which is top-tier silicon. Both Pro models run on iOS 26. The company’s latest flagship smartphone was announced by the company’s CEO Tim Cook in a pre-recorded event, which was livestreamed on Apple’s website and its YouTube channel.
These new devices, which come as successors to the iPhone 16 Pro models, come with many new features and upgrades. Both devices will support all the artificial intelligence (AI) features of the Apple Intelligence Suite.
iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max price and availability
The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 (256GB variant) in the US, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be available at $1,199 (256GB variant). In India, the starting price of the iPhone 17 Pro is Rs 1,34,900 and the 17 Pro Max is priced at Rs 1,49,900. They will be available in Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue and Silver colour options. The iPhone 17 Pro models will be available for pre-order from September 12 and the smartphones will go on sale globally from September 19.
Features and specifications of iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max
The iPhone 17 Pro models again come with an aluminium build, meaning this year’s models will not have a titanium body like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro. On the other hand, the new member of the lineup, the iPhone 17 Air, has been given a titanium body. Apple has adopted a unibody design this time with a ‘full-with camera plate’ on the back, giving a new look to the design.
Talking about new things, the iPhone 17 Pro is the company’s first flagship smartphone to feature a vapor chamber cooling system. Apple says it is designed to maintain high performance during demanding workloads. The iPhone 17 Pro has a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion support up to 120Hz. At the same time, the 17 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, which comes with the same specifications. Ceramic Shield 2, which has Apple’s newly designed coating, makes the screen 3 times more scratch resistant. Both devices have a peak outdoor brightness of 3,000nits.
The iPhone 17 Pro models are powered by the new A19 Pro chipset, paired with the company’s new vapor chamber. Apple says its ‘most powerful’ iPhone chip offers 40 percent better sustained performance than previous generations. It has a six-core CPU and six-core GPU architecture, with neural accelerators in each GPU core.
Talking about cameras, the iPhone 17 Pro models have a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel primary camera, a 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens. This is the first time all three cameras on the back of an iPhone have the same resolution of 48-megapixels. The telephoto camera has received the biggest upgrade compared to the 12-megapixel camera in the previous generation. Apple says it is 56 percent larger and offers 8x optical zoom and 40x digital zoom. On the front, it has an 18-megapixel camera that uses the center stage to dynamically frame photos.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will run on iOS 26 out-of-the-box. The new operating system brings the Liquid Glass user interface as well as new Apple Intelligence features to the smartphone. Users will be able to use artificial intelligence (AI) features such as live translation, upgraded visual intelligence capabilities and new screening tools for calls and messages in the Messages, FaceTime and Phone apps.
According to the company, the iPhone 17 Pro models get a larger battery due to the unibody design and the A19 Pro processor offers more power efficiency. Apple has also claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max has the ‘best battery life ever in any iPhone’. These devices support the company’s high-wattage USB-C power adapter and are claimed to charge up to 50 percent in 20 minutes.
